David. David, as we may know from Biblical history, was a young shepherd who defeated the warrior Goliath, who had issued a challenge to the Israelites, daring them to send forth a champion to engage him in single combat. David defeated the warrior , employing a sling and stone as a weapon. This story now serves as a metaphor for the underdog rising up to defeat the giant in whatever form it may take. The great sculptor Michelangelo created a depiction of David which sits in the Accademia Gallery of Florence, in Italy, and this bears an uncanny likeness of him.
